Majestic SEO released Flow Metrics -- Cool..

Check out their blog post on it:

Flow Metrics will change the way you look at links | Majestic SEO Blog

I ran a couple penguin penalized sites through this and got an interesting link profile graphic. Very bottom left weighted..here is one picture of one penguin bitch slapped.

I analyzed two sites, one hit by penguin and another that faired well, scores were almost identical 22/20 and 23/20.

I think the sample size is small (one penalized, 1 not) to have a verdict yet.

But multiple sources quoted here and other forums, as we know, is the anchor text is the biggest culprit, not the trust flow or the citation flow of the link profile.

I wish majesticseo or hrefs would add platform information on links. Now that would save me some time!

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm still going to look into it - and I agree the sample was small but i highly doubt Miked was trying to present it as hard evidence or anything. I don't want to put words in his mouth, but I take the observation as interesting as it's just one more piece of a puzzle that may get put together at some point

I knew I should have started with FWIW...

Sure Penguin is more anchor related and their tool is about citation and trust, you are right, probably it's best use is probably for domaing.

We can change your user tag to 'FWIW Fuckers' or something equally warming and warning

    oh...

...another interesting thing about the two sites I ran. They are both exactly the same types of sites, same social sizes followers etc...

The site not hit had about 400K hits/month the other 45K / month. The more authoritative site (400K) also ranked extremely well and has a very natural link profile.

The 400K / month site just updated their stats to 200K / month(they sell ads), my best guess is they lost 50% of their traffic to Penguin, we lost 90%. I suspect the same type of traffic loss for another site that escaped Penguin in the same niche. I think this is something that has not been talked about much, hence there is much more to Penguin than just anchors and that is a large loss of long-tail traffic for those that relied on hundreds of keywords rather than 4-5 strong ones.

With all that said, the new majestic stats are the same for both sites so I don't see much of a signal value there.

    FUCKERS! J/K lol
